Life can feel overwhelming at times, with stress and anxiety creeping in from every corner. Not to mention, it can strike at any moment often when you aren’t even expecting it. From someone with a ton of anxiety experience, it is not fun and having some tools to deal with it is invaluable. So, for today we are going through a beautiful simmer pot to help ease anxiety and inspire calm in your day.

If you’ve been following me even for a minute you probably know that I am a huge fan of a good simmer pot lol. For those of us in this corner of the internet, a simmer pot isn’t just about filling your home with a pleasant aroma, though it is a lovely side effect—it’s about setting an intention to help you reach goals and manifest your desires. A incredibly powerful tool for manifestation and your spiritual practice.

First things first, if you’re not yet familiar with the magic of simmer pots, a simmer pot is a pot of gently simmering water filled with aromatic and energy filled herbs, spices, and fruits. Some also enjoy using essential oils in their simmer pots but I am a whole ingredient kind of gal so there won’t be any essential oils in my recipes.

Combining together ingredients with energies that match the intention you are wanting to set is one of my favourite types of ritual work. Whether it be when cooking a meal, crafting an energy spray, mixing up DIY beauty products, or of course when brewing simmer pots, they all feed my spirit in so many ways. There are so many ways you can do this and you can create a simmer pot for absolutely anything you are wanting to accomplish, including easing anxiety which we are looking at today. Exact steps are included below, so no worries if this is your first one. I’ve got you!

Aromatherapy has long been recognized for its ability to affect our emotions and mental well-being. Certain herbs, fruits, and spices are well known to have calming energetic properties that can help reduce stress and anxiety. When combined in a simmer pot, these ingredients work together to bring those energies into your space and create a soothing environment that encourages relaxation, mindfulness and calm. Plus, the simple act of preparing a simmer pot can be meditative in itself, allowing you to slow down and focus on self-care and the ritual at hand. Now let’s get into the recipe!

To create a simmer pot designed specifically to ease anxiety, you’ll want to gather a combination of ingredients known for their calming effects. Here’s a blend that is a favourite of mine. Tried and tested lol.

Orange Slices – Citrus scents, especially orange, are known to boost mood and reduce stress. Energetic properties include joy, creativity, positivity, health, prosperity, good fortune, and success.

Lemon Slices – Lemon has a fresh and uplifting scent that can help clear the mind and reduce mental fatigue. Energetic properties include clarity, longevity, happiness, spirituality, success, and energy.

Cinnamon Sticks – Cinnamon has a warm and comforting aroma that can bring a sense of security and coziness, helping to ease anxious feelings. Energetic properties include healing, love, prosperity, strength, success, luck, money, and abundance.

Dried Lavender Buds – Lavender is one of the most well-known herbs for relaxation and stress relief. Its soothing scent is also widely used to promote calmness and better sleep. Energetic properties include happiness, love, relaxation, cleansing, balance, peace, calm, protection, and longevity.

Dried Chamomile Flowers – Chamomile is extremely well known to ease anxiety and promote relaxation. Energetic properties include harmony, calm, cleansing, balance, uplifting, money, protection, love, and prosperity.

Vanilla Extract – The sweet, warm scent of vanilla is known to have a calming effect on the nervous system. It also adds a beautiful scent note to your blend! Energetic properties include love, beauty, energy, and passion.

1. Fill a Pot with Water: Start by filling a medium-sized pot with about 4-6 cups of water and place it on the stove. You can also use a slow cooker if you’d like to keep the simmer pot going on its own. I always just use pots as it feels more organic for me somehow, If using a pot just be sure to refill the water as necessary so you don’t let the pot run dry.

2. Add Your Ingredients: Add your ingredients one by one into the pot focusing on deep breathing and your intention of easing your anxiety. Take your time with this step.

3. Bring to a Gentle Boil: Turn the pot to medium heat and allow it to come to a gentle boil. If you’re using a slow cooker, set it to low or warm. Once boiling turn your heat down to low and allow the pot to simmer.

4. Visualize, Enjoy the Aroma and Take in the Calming Energies: As the pot simmers, your home will be filled with a calming, uplifting scent. Take deep breaths, sit quietly, and try to visualize yourself in a calm and relaxed state. You may stay in this space for as long as it feels appropriate for you.

5. Add More Water as Needed: Simmer pots can be enjoyed for several hours. Simply add more water if it starts to get too low. Stay doing your ritual until you feel it is right to close it out. It is nice to end one of these simmer pot rituals by stating your intention or reciting a small spell to solidify your intention.

One of the most beautiful aspects of a simmer pot is that you can turn it into a very fulfilling ritual as part of your spiritual practice. Setting aside time to prepare a simmer pot allows you to slow down, be intentional, and focus on the present moment. Rituals like these can help train your brain to associate certain scents with relaxation, making it easier to shift into a peaceful state of mind over time.

Really make the practice your own. Feel free to add things in to the experience such as candles, symbols, spells, crystals, music, and anything else that will make you more connected to the ritual and to make it as powerful for you as possible.

Once you become comfortable with making simmer pots, you can experiment with different ingredients to find what works best for you and your different intentions.
